Help For Heroes www.ladieswholaunch.org.uk We are all approached a number of times each year to sponsor various charity events with individuals doing all sort of scary things to raise money for their favourite charity. This year, a huge push is being made to raise money for servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan who need far more support and rehabilitation than was ever envisaged by the Government when they were deployed. A group of ladies from the Royal Southampton Yacht Club have got together and produced a challenge in order to raise money for our returning troops. We are sailing in all female crewed and skippered boats, across the Channel from Lymington to Cherbourg the last weekend in May. For most of us this is a big challenge. We normally have partners and husbands to do the majority of the work, we sometimes helm, supply the butties and make the tea. This time it’s all up to us, including sorting out navigation, stemming the tides and making sure we get into Cherbourg before the Alderney race sweeps us down to the Channel Islands .
I hope you will feel able to support me and “Team Aquarius”, in our all-girl ‘Challenge to Cherbourg’ on May 29th. More information about the challenge is on the website, where you will find a link to the event's ‘Just Giving’ page. Please remember to tick the Gift Aid box. Final request is that you add my name, Christine, and the boats name, AQUARIUS, to the message at the very end of the donation process, along with any ‘good luck’ message you care to send us. Kind Regards Christine Agnew. "It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes." |
